About Chicago Rebuild Collective
Chicago’s historic homes are a masterclass in architecture, ranging from classic worker cottages to iconic greystones. Their shapes, materials, and old-school craftsmanship give our city its unique character. However, remodeling them correctly takes more than just adding new finishes. It requires a deep understanding of how these old houses were originally built and how they should safely change for modern living.
Chicago Rebuild Collective was founded to bring that level of care, discipline, and high-quality work to local residential remodeling.
As a design-build firm specializing in historic Chicago renovations, we focus entirely on fixing up the city’s older houses. Our work centers on custom kitchens, interior reconfigurations, and architectural carpentry. These are the exact projects where smart design choices, structural engineering, and great craftsmanship all come together.
Our processA design-build process built for complex home renovations in Chicago
Most renovation problems do not happen during construction. They happen before the physical work even starts, back when important decisions are still up in the air.
That is why every single project begins with a dedicated design and pre-construction phase.
During this initial planning phase, we map out your layout, inspect hidden structural conditions, design custom cabinetry, and catch mechanical problems on paper before any demolition begins. By solving these puzzles early, we create a clear scope of work, a realistic timeline, and a predictable budget you can trust.
Our collective model allows us to bring in the best specialized tradespeople for your specific project. At the same time, we give you a single, clear point of contact so you always know who is accountable.
The goal of our process is simple:
Fewer surprises pop up behind your walls once construction starts.
Better craftsmanship honors the historic roots of your property.
Renovations that feel natural look like they always belonged in your space.

Ryan Palma
Owner / Lead Carpenter / Design / Project Management
Ryan Palma founded Chicago Rebuild Collective in 2025 after realizing that thoughtful renovation work combined everything he cares about. His passion brings together design, complex problem solving, and building things that last.
Ryan has been mastering his craft for over a decade. After years of working hands-on, learning trade secrets, and studying how older buildings actually come together, he developed a deep respect for the way classic Chicago homes were originally constructed.
Today, Ryan leads every residential project from the early planning stages straight through construction. He brings a high level of attention to detail to highly specialized projects. His areas of expertise include complex custom carpentry, historic staircase restorations, and traditional mortise and tenon lock installations. He focuses on clear design thinking, careful planning, and the kind of finish carpentry that respects the original architecture of the property, all while communicating clearly with the client throughout the entire process.
Ryan believes that every home renovation is a great opportunity to improve how a house functions for a modern family. At the same time, his work preserves the vintage character that made the home worth saving in the first place.
